Bhagirathi Valley, Garhwal Himalayas

The alpine grasslands of Uttarakhand, known as bugyals, stretch for miles spanning several ridges above the tree-line offering unhindered views of the Himalayan peaks. These grasslands are usually covered in thick snow in the winter and are coloured a stark brown in the spring as the snow melts and a bright green as the rains arrive. Dayara Bugyal, one of the largest grasslands in Uttarakhand that lies in the shadow of the massive Bandarpunch Massif, is a short 7 km climb from the village of Raithal in the Bhagirathi Valley. Accessible to amateur trekkers, this moderate trek doesn't fail to amaze even experienced travelers to the Himalayas due to its sheer proximity to the snowy mountain ranges.

  • Panoramic Himalayan views of several major peaks in the Gangotri and Yamunotri region like Bandarpunch, Draupadi ka Danda, Neelkanth, Black Peak etc.
  • The various moods of lush and sprawling grasslands of Dayara Bugyal- an envious green in the monsoons, rustic brown in the summer and peaceful white in the winter
  • The rich flora and fauna of the Himalayas including exotic plants, beautiful flowers and shy birds.
  • Sumptuous Gharwali cuisine prepared from locally sourced naturally grown ingredients.
  • An insight into the rich heritage and culture of the Garhwal Himalayas that has endured for thousands of years.
  • Advance Mountaineering Course certified and experienced trek leader from Uttarakhand
  • Raithal:- A quiet village in the Bhagirathi Valley known for a 500 year old house that survived the Uttarkashi earthquake of 1991
  • Gangnani:- A natural hot water spring to soothe the aching bones after a wonderful trek.
  • Uttarkashi:- Kashi of the north, this town on the banks of Bhagrirathi is known for the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
  • Landour:- Adjoining the hill-station of Mussourie, the serene cantonment settlement of Landour is ideal for a walk amidst towering Deodar trees and enjoying lip-smacking pancakes and waffles at the famous Char-Dukan or Four Shops. The nostalgia of the British era is palpable in this quiet neighbourhood that has managed to retain its pristine natural beauty.
